Waracle To Develop Andriod Applications

Google is hoping to have the same impact on the mobile phone market in 2010 as it did with the Internet itself with the release of new Google Android handsets. Having spent considerable time researching and developing applications for the iPhone, the Waracle development team are keen to see how the battle between Google and Apple will unfold into 2010. Google must either create a handset, or entice another company (HTC?) that can compete with the usability and functionality of the iPhone, in order for the Android platform to be a success. Having seen a plethora of iPhone ‘copy cat’ handsets enter the market, it is apparent that many, whilst impressive, still remain unable to shake Apple’s grip on the market.

When Waracle developers set about building an application for iPhone or Android, there are a number of factors that must be taken into consideration. The productivity of developers is a key consideration and this will be affected by the tools available, the platform and the overall development experience in each example. Having expertise in C, C++ and Java, I would hope that we are in a position to present a balanced an unbiased view on the merits of each.

According to a certain member of the Waracle development team, the tools and platform for Android are first class. As such, other mobile development environments have been described as dated and cumbersome by comparison. It’s still possible to create great applications and games for other mobiles, it just means additional headache for the coders. Having said this, the Apple application store as a distribution platform has a truly global reach and the coverage for developer’s products is superb. On this basis, the Android distribution network is relatively weak and offers developers a slimmer opportunity to capitalise on any given application. Relating to the previous point, it is expected that the tools available and platform for iPhone will improve over time, providing developers and development teams with added confidence and flexibility. When Waracle developers set about building an application for iPhone or Android, there are a number of factors that must be taken into consideration. What we will see in 2010 is a major shake-up of the mobile handset market. With a number of new handsets being made available to the public, Google Android promises to provide an open platform for developers, much like the search engine itself in its non-discriminatory approach towards what constitutes an acceptable application, and what does not. With recent criticism of the Apple approval process from developers, this is something that could play in Google’s favour. Until such a time, Apple will remain the market leader and developers will have to decide for themselves which platform offers a superior environment.  As a leading iPhone development studio in Scotland, Waracle are looking to create applications for Google Android in 2010.
