Apple: Top 10 Songs, Movies & Apps 2009

Gone are the golden days of Top of The Pops, when record buyers rushed to HMV to collect the latest 7" vinyl on a Monday morning. Times have changed and Apple release new content through iTunes on a Tuesday. But this Tuesday is not like an ordinary release day on iTunes as Apple unveils iTunes rewind 2009. This takes a close look at the top performing albums, songs, movies TV shows, iPhone applications, audiobooks and podcasts of the past year. 



Given the increasing prominence of iTunes, the top ten lists provided by Apple provide an insight into the most widely enjoyed entertainment on the store. The most popular single was the Black Eyed Peas ‘Boom Boom Pow’ and the top performing album was the Kings of Leon ‘Only By The Night’. Top selling iPhone apps include The Sims 3, The Oregon Trail and Need for Speed Undercover. In terms of movies, Twilight dominated both the sales and rental charts on iTunes. Quantum of Solace and The Pineapple Express came in a close second and third place.


Apple has even gone as far as to introduce honorary awards to some of the top performing artists and productions. Lady Gaga scooped best new artist with Michael Jackson claiming artist of the year. One thing that Apple keeps undisclosed are the exact sales figures, enabling us to see how much cash each artist has pulled in. However, this does provide an interesting look at the hottest acts and applications of 2009. We have outlined each of the top 10 music, movies, television and apps lists below.
